We are excited to offer a trip to Big Sky Montana! It has been a few years since Austin Skiers have gone there and members have been asking for it! We are staying in three bedroom condo at one of the most convenient lodging properties in Big Sky.  Just a short walk to Black Bear poma lift.

The Skiing:

The mountains of Big Sky formed 60 million years ago. Rising above them all is Lone Peak, a geologic marvel known as a Christmas tree laccolith for its pyramidal shape. A gem in the Northern Rockies, the mountain gets more than 400 inches of snow a year, and winter temperatures average in the 20s. All of which makes Big Sky, 45 miles outside Bozeman, an ideally situated ski destination.

The resort was founded in 1973 by NBC newsman Chet Huntley. A Montana native, Huntley did not ski, but he was known to go horseback riding in the surrounding wildflower meadows. For years, the resort remained relatively unknown except among the most devoted skiers, who came for Big Sky’s signature powder, an especially light and wispy snow that locals call “Cold Smoke.”

Mountain Village:

The Mountain Village is the heart and soul of Big Sky. It is largely pedestrian, easy to navigate and f

ull-service, offering everything a week-long guest might need. Dining and shopping opportunities for enlivening and entertainment.  Things to do in winter at Big Sky, click HERE.

Lodging:
Big Horn Condos are perfect for providing a spacious, delightfully home-like accommodations for large groups. Each unit offers a washer/dryer, fireplaces, garage, and balcony.  We are in the 3-bedroom units. The property is located just a short walk to the Black Bear Poma lift and enjoys great views of Lone Mountain and Lake Levinsky.

The Black Bear Poma lift takes skiers right to the Ramcharger and Swift Current Lifts, the center of ski action.  A short 10 minute walk takes you to the center of the Mountain Village where you can enjoy all the restaurants, shopping and activities that Big Sky has to offer.  Check out this video of BIG HORN.

Transportation:
We will have a morning flight from Austin and then a short 45 minute bus ride from Bozman, arriving at our condos late morning or early afternoon.   We'll make a stop for groceries and refreshments.  The condos are located on Big Sky resort shuttle line to take you to the Mountain Village restaurants, bars and the market, however, Mountain Village is a short 10 minute walk from our condos.
