Steamboat Springs, CO

January 10 - 17, 2009

Steamboat has been a perennial favorite for Austin Skiers, and we're going to Rock the 'Boat again in '09!

We will join the Texas Ski Council for its largest trip, the TSC Traditional.  Famous for its "Champagne Powder ®", Steamboat’s six peaks - Mount Werner, Sunshine Peak, Storm Peak, Thunderhead Peak, Pioneer Ridge and Christie Peak - offer 165 trails, 2,965 acres of terrain and a 3,668 ft. vertical to delight skiers of all abilities.

With an annual snowfall of 331", you'll find plentyboarder of great skiing all season!  If you're a rider or a free-style skier, put your skills to the test on the Mavericks Superpipe, a 500' long, 56'-wide half-pipe with 18' walls.  The adjacent terrain park offers a variety of rails, and a miniature version of the Superpipe with 5' walls - perfect for novices!  The mix of trails by ability is: 14% Beginner, 42% Intermediate, and 44% Advanced, with the longest run, “Why Not”, just over three miles.

Picked as a Top 10 ski resort for 2007 by both SKI and Skiing magazines, Steamboat has invested $23 million in improvements over the past 2 seasons to make your skiing experience even better!   The new Christie Peak Express, a high speed six-passenger lift shortens the ride time to the summit of Christie Peak to just under five minutes.  An option to unload at the midway station also guarantees easy access to the re-designed Headwall area.  The Headwall area has undergone a transformation to make the area more beginner-friendly, with a complete re-grade of the entire terrain, and improved snowmaking capabilities.

Accommodations

We'll be staying in the elegant 2-bedroom/2-bath condominiums at Canyon Creek, located approximately 200 yards from the Steamboat Gondola.  There is an outdoor heated pool & hot tub and each condo is equipped with a gas fireplace and a washer/dryer. A private shuttle is available to transport guests to skiing, dining, shopping and nightlife. The historic downtown area offers a number of dining, shopping and nightlife options and is just a short shuttle ride away.

Transportation

We have an 7:50 am non-stop flight into Denver. We’ll arrive at our condos by mid afternoon after a 3 hour scenic ride to Steamboat Springs, with one stop to shop at the famous Applejack Wine & Spirits.  With videos and lunch on the bus, the time will pass quickly. A late afternoon flight home from Denver will allow for a leisurely departure after a fabulous week at Steamboat.
