The Skiing: Catching spectacular Whitefish Mountain Resort buried in snow—as you often will—reassures you that there is still skiing that is beautiful, affordable and uncrowded left on the planet. With two new high-speed quads and a sprawling $11 million day lodge, the readers of Skiing Magazine repeatedly chant the "great value/no crowds" mantra that is Whitefish Mountain Resort's one-two punch. Big Mountain itself remains a skier's hill, with "huge groomers, great tree skiing and lots of glades and bowls to explore." Full 360 degree views at the top sweep from the ramparts of nearby Glacier National Park to Flathead Lake and the white spires of the Mission and Salish ranges, earning it a No. 6 in Scenery by the readers of Ski Magazine. Whitefish Mountain Resort has lots of great terrain for all levels of skiers & boarders. Its 3,000 skiable acres makes it about the same size as Steamboat and Snowmass. Whitefish altitude is much lower than you find in Colorado. The base elevation is 4,464 ft, which is lower than Denver, and the top is only 6,817, which is about the same as the base in Park City. No altitude sickness here! If there is enough interest, we will arrange a day trip to ski at Fernie in British Columbia, Canada, which is only about 1.5 hours from Whitefish. The Town The people of Whitefish are genuinely friendly and down-to-earth. The town's low-key atmosphere makes this tight-knit community a happy and warm place to visit. Though you may spot a movie star on occasion, Whitefish is the kind of town that tends to keep out of the spotlight despite the high-profile beauty of its own backyard. Success here is measured in terms of how many mountains one has climbed, runs skied or fish caught. The locals are welcoming and willing to share their recreational passions with visitors--freely swapping stories at the local galleries, coffeehouses or saloons. With its covered sidewalk main street leading to the cultural arts center, historic depot museum and public library, this quaint, picturesque western town offers visitors a change from the fast-paced, hustle and bustle of urban life. Central Avenue is filled with a variety of quality restaurants, shopping and night life. Accommodations
