Steamboat Springs, CO
TSC WINTER SHOOTOUT

FEBRUARY 11 - 18, 2023

An Austin Favorite!

T
he Resort:

Steamboat Ski Resort is located just outside Steamboat Springs – a premier ski resort with plenty of terrain that’s covered in “Champagne Powder” - a term “Steamboat” created used to describe the light fluffy snow that falls in abundance. "Ski" magazine" just released their 2019 survey and Steamboat was among the top 10 for "most charm" in the West. It has a rich Western history replete with cowboys, ranches and horses. It’s often called Ski Town, U.S.A. due to the fact that it was produced more Olympians than any other town in the country. None other than Billy Kidd calls Steamboat home! He was the first American to win an alpine medal when he came in 2nd in the mens slalom at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympic games. He still serves as director of skiing at Steamboat.

The Skiing:
With an average annual snowfall of 360" - one of the most among Colorado ski resorts, you'll find plenty of great skiing (Trail Maps)!  Steamboat is a paradise for intermediate skiers! Many of the single black runs are also great for strong intermediate riders. There is a vast assortment of Intermediate slopes allowing multiple generations ski together.

If you're a rider or a free-style skier, put your skills to the test on the Mavericks Superpipe, a 500' long, 56'-wide half-pipe with 18' walls.  The adjacent terrain park offers a variety of rails, and a miniature version of the Superpipe with 5' walls - perfect for novices!  The mix of trails by ability is: 14% Beginner, 42% Intermediate, and 44% Advanced, with the longest run, “Why Not”, just over three miles. Those skiers looking for "fresh tracks" can head out "cat skiing" with "Steamboat Powdercats."

Steamboat was chosen as No. 8 Western ski resort for 2021 by SKI Magazine. The Christie Peak Express, a high speed six-passenger lift makes the ride time to the summit of Christie Peak to just under five minutes.  An option to unload at the midway station also guarantees easy access to the Headwall area.  If you haven’t been to Steamboat recently, the Headwall area has undergone a transformation to make the area more beginner-friendly, with a complete re-grade of the entire terrain, and improved snow making capabilities.

The Town:

Steamboat (pop. 12,690) is a town with a long, rich history and an authentic western flair - it's one of the elite ski towns in North America. Most notable is the simple, genuine friendliness and relaxed, down-home atmosphere that will make you feel welcome during your ski vacation.   There are really two towns - a village at the base area of the resort, and the town of Steamboat Springs itself. Both offer an array of dining and nightlife options and shopping as well. Check out this list put together by Powderhouds.com for on/off mountain dining and the après-ski scene.
