Trip Leader Comments

The first time I was invited to Whitefish I was sure that this was just a little mountain where people could go skiing on the weekends.  I was more than surprised to find that it actually is a great mountain that is full of fun ski runs of all levels.  It is a great alternative to the higher priced resorts that we offer, while at the same time offering great skiing!

And to add to the benefits, this is a TSC trip and we have racing!  From the words of our esteemed racing director, Tom Mowdy, "Anyone, any age, any level skier or snowboarder, can join the fun! The race courses are short and designed to work for any skier or boarder. It is all about participation and fun. Austin won TSC Division One 2023 and we plan to keep the trophy in 2024. We see the San Antonio Los Amigos as our strongest competition. Every racer counts and makes the team more competitive. If you can snow plow, you can race."

Please join the fun and help us keep the trophy!

THE SKIING

Whitefish Mountain Resort, in Montana, has 3,000 acres of varied terrain for skiing and boarding on 113 named trails in addition to four terrain parks, several bowls and glades known for world-renowned tree skiing. They have a friendly fun-loving vibe with virtually no lift lines at an unbelievable value. There really is something for everyone at this world class ski resort just 50 miles south of the Canadian border and 35 minutes west of Glacier National Park.

We have not asked for passport information as this is not an international trip but make your plans before the trip and bring your passport if you are planning on taking an excursion into Canada!

Be sure to check out the longest run named Hell Fire, some 2.52 miles through the Hellroaring Basin for those who dare. The mountain has 12% beginner slopes, 36% intermediate, 45% advanced and 7% expert with 100% Fun! All serviced by 12 lifts and a conveyor carpet for beginners.

THE TOWN

Whitefish is a wintertime mecca for snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, skijoring, sleigh riding, sledding, ice skating, and cross-country skiing. A wide variety of groomed Nordic skiing trails are available throughout the Whitefish area. Tours in Glacier National Park take you through breathtaking scenery, and the Whitefish Lake Golf Club magically transforms into the Glacier Nordic Center in winter—a 15-kilometer Nordic touring center that is tracked and groomed for skating and cross-country skiing. Be sure to take a day off from skiing and enjoy some other winter activities in Whitefish.

Be sure to plan a few evenings in this beautiful idyllic old west town. There are a ton of places to eat, ranging from causal to elegant dining. Not sure where to go, just ask any local and I’m sure they will point you in the right direction.

TRANSPORTATION, AIRLINE SCHEDULE and Miscellaneous
The Club has no group airfare to this location as the only pricing offered to us was expensive and a poor itinerary.  We decided it was better to offer each member the opportunity to choose their own flights.  As of September 11th, airline prices are hovering around $500/pp from Austin but are subject to change.   Some members will want to book flights coming in early and other members will prefer a later option.

The lodge provides a free shuttle to pick up members at the airport according to their own schedule.

Transportation to and from the town to the ski hill is easy, just jump on board the free SNOW Bus. There are designated bus stops in town and along the ride to the mountain. Grouse Lodge also offers their own shuttle service to and from the hill and town as well.
Don’t miss this great trip to a winter wonderland to ski, shop, explore and eat at Whitefish Mountain Resort. You will be glad you did.

Other Information
The geographical mountain itself is named Big Mountain which is in the Whitefish Range. There was a slogan from the 90’s “Ski the Fish”, as many locals referred to the resort as Whitefish. In 2007, the resort name was officially changed to Whitefish Mountain Resort from Big Mountain Resort to better associate the ski area with the town of Whitefish.
