April 2026 News

For renewals between June 1 and June 10, he price is the same as last year but the renewal process is different as we are migrating to a new website that will be presented at the May membership and trips presentation meeting.

Current Members - Membership Dues remain $45 individual/$80 family.

With the new website, we are moving from a membership year for all members ending June 1, to an end date of 12 months after the member signs up.

Full details of how to register and pay on the new website will be provided at the membership meeting, as well as in an email that will be sent out the following day. Current members will have 10 days (until June 10th) to renew at the current rate. If the renewal is not made during this time, renewing members will be considered a lapsed member as outlined below.

New Members and Lapsed Renewal Members - Membership dues will be $55 for individuals and $90 for families, including the $10 set up fee.

As outlined above, Club Memberships will be good for 1 year regardless of join date. For example, if the join date is Aug. 20th, 2026, membership will expire Aug. 20th, 2027. In the future, as long as renewal is made before the expiration date, the rate will remain the same unless an increase has been approved by the Board of Directors.
Summary of 2026 Austin Skiers Bylaws Change

As we mentioned in the 2024 Annual Membership/Trip Presentation meeting,Texas state law governing non-profits changed. The Board exercising its due diligence took action to update them accordingly to comply with Texas statutes and federal regulations requiring a nonprofit to be valid under state law.

We opted to hire an experienced local law firm to review the Bylaws and see what changes we needed to make. We provided him a copy of the current Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation, Financial Guidelines and the Standing Rules. The Texas Legislature overhauled the non profit statue in 2006 affecting approximately 80,000 – 170,000 nonprofit organizations. The lawyer came back with a draft significantly longer than the one we had been operating under because so much had changed. There was no choice, but to do a total rewrite and start from scratch. Too much had changed to simply try and amend the current version. One of the key things that the lawyer advised us on was that as a board run organization, as outlined in our articles of incorporation and statute, the Board is authorized to change the Club bylaws.

We created a Bylaws review committee of the board, which spent considerable time reviewing the draft. It was approved on April 14, 2026, at the regular monthly board meeting.
Summary of bylaw changes April 2026

We believe these changes coupled with the board being able to amend the bylaws to stay compliant with state and federal requirements will prevent future boards from having to go through this lengthy process. Therefore, on an annual basis the board will review whether changes have been made in state or federal requirements and make changes accordingly. Future changes will also be communicated to the membership.
If you still have a question, send it to Gary Armstrong, president@austinskiers.org by no later than 10 days prior to the May 31 Membership/Trip Presentation meeting.
